The 1970's Fashion Trends

There are so many things to remember about the 1970s. You don't have to be born in the 70's, to know what was famous in that time. Just by watching television shows today that are based on the 1970s time frame, can bring back memories of it. Some people may remember their parents or their selves in photo albums, wearing 1970s fashion.

Many people back then wore: the stylish plat form shoes, Afros or mullets, flower prints on their clothes, butter fly collar shirts, painters pants, tight fitting bell-bottom pants, halter top blouses, miniskirts, one-piece swimsuits, hot pants (tight fitting shorts), and many other fashion trends.

One of the top fashion super models of the 70s was Janice Dickinson. Those fashion statements from that time are now famous party themes today; the 1970s costume parties of today. Almost everyone in the 70s were so friendly and free, it brought white people and black people into unity, by having parties, and by protesting the rights of "the people." Black people and white people also wore the same fashions in the seventies.

70s Music

Music of The 1970s

What comes to mind about music in that time is; "Soul Train" and "American Band Stand." Also the music from the movies; "Super Fly" and "Saturday Night Fever." In many of the 70s movies disco music is played with the glitter disco ball being the center of attraction.

I will run down a list of singers from the seventies, they are: Barry Manilow, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, The Jackson Five, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, Diana Summer, The Bee Gee's, Gloria Gaynor, Blondie, Parliament-Funkadelic, James Brown, Lionel Richie, Donnie and Marie Osmond, Ohio Players, Roger and Zapp, Kool and The Gang, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Commodores, The Gap Band, Cher, Barbara Streisand, Dianne Warwick, Rod Stewart, and Tammy Wynette. I'm not done, also there were: Elvis Presley, Olivia Newton-John, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Crystal Gayle, Elton John, The Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Marley, AC/DC, and many other 1970s singers and performers. This music is now considered "oldies but goodies" or "classics of the seventies."

1970's Cars

The cars we have today in 2012 are computerized and cute, like the new "Chrysler PT Cruiser's. The cars in the 70's were sturdier, and had real hard metal bumpers, that didn't bend in a minor accident. I like the 70's cars with the "let back roof tops," my dad and my uncles had one; It was cool. Some classic cars of the seventies are: Buick-LeSabre, Buick-Regal, 1977 Ford Pinto, 1975 Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang Cobra II, Chrysler Cordoba, Chevrolet Chevette, Toyota Corollas, 73 Dodge Pickup Truck, Chevy Vega, and other 70's vehicles. Most cars of the 70's are still on the road today, and they run really good. They hold gas longer because of the smaller gas tanks, than these new huge SUV's of today.

Toys and Games of the 70's

As children of the seventies we all remember playing with; crayons, Barbie dolls, race tracks, checkers, and others toys and games. But the toy I remember most is the "Hoppity Hop," the huge bouncy ball, which you sit on and hold on to the handle, and just hop around on it. If you’re from the 70's like I am, then maybe you remember the bouncy ball toy also. There are so many toys and games from the 70s, here are a few: Rubik's cube, matchbox cars, the skateboard released in 1975, of course roller skates, rock'em sock'em robots, etch-a-sketch, slinky's, view finders, scrabble, operation, clue, Lego's, monopoly, race bikes, sit & spin, calculators (were introduced), cassette radio's (advanced from 8-track tape players), and many more.

70s Movies

Also the movies were fun to watch, because some movies would have 70's music as a movie soundtrack. The 1970s movies were:

  • Rocky
  • The Wiz (featuring Michael Jackson)
  • Grease
  • Saturday Night Fever
  • Foxy Brown (featuring Pam Grier)
  • The Bad News Bears

There were many other 1970s movies as well. All the memories of the 1970s are still being thought of today; with 70's party themes, clothes, cars, and classic songs of the 70's.

Many people grew up as children in the 1970s, and still remember many memorable things of the 70s. A few things you many remember of the seventies are: beaded curtains, lava lamps, bean bag chairs, and roller skates.

Writing this article was fun; I hope my readers enjoyed it as well. Leave your comments, thanks for reading.

Peace
