A Music Experiment - Positive vs. Negative Music

Updated on October 10, 2016

Music Experiment - The Importance of Music

The music you listen to may be "inspirational" or it can be "toxic" to your mind and spirit.

When I was in grade school; my teacher did this music experiment. She had two houseplants; she put one plant in one room and the other plant in another room. Now, she had "heavy metal" (negative) music play for one week in a room with one plant. And "inspirational music" (positive) music played in another room with the second plant. After a period of time, the plants started to grow differently. The negative music plant, the leaves eventually started to grow downward until they turned yellowish-brown and died. Then the positive music plant grew upward, the leaves were greener and lively. Mind-you my teacher watered both plants on the same day, and with the same amount of water and lighting. So you tell me, do music a major effect on living beings? This is an experiment of the importance of positive music.

Words Are Powerful - Life and Death Are in the Power of the Tongue

Music is healing and therapeutic. Certain beats and tempos can have an effect on our breathing patterns, heart rates, and blood pressures. Often times we are just grooving to the beat, instead of actually listening to the lyrics of songs. Mostly words to songs will be stored in our subconscious memory; words are powerful. So it is our decision to choose which songs we will indulge in, the positive songs, or the not so positive songs. Furthermore, the Bible says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue". And we shall eat the fruit of our lips (proverbs 18:21). Words have creative power, this first happened when God spoke the world into existence.

The question is, what is positive or negative music to you? According to the lyrics anyone can recognize the difference between the two (negative or positive).

Music Therapy in Health Care

There’s a growing field of health care known as music therapy, which uses music to heal. Music is used for stress management; many sorts of mental training and learning can alter the brain, just as physical training alters the body. Studies show, if music just did a little to lift our spirits, it would also be a powerful force in maintaining physical and mental health. The pleasure that results from listening to music we like stimulates the release of neural growth, growth and replacement of brain cells.

My Parents Music

Furthermore, the music I grew up on my parents still listen to some of them today, and I do also. I remember the music albums my parents had sitting in an album rack. When we had company over we would go through all the record albums. Trying to decide which ones we would play first. The albums I remember seeing were:

  • The Temptations
  • Isley Brothers
  • Curtis Mayfield
  • The Jackson Five
  • Diana Ross
  • The Pointer Sisters
  • Smokey Robinson
  • The Miracles
  • The Whispers
  • Ohio Players
  • Donny & Marie and "The Portridge Family" songs (na just kidding)

Deitrick Haddon - Inspirational Gospel Music

This is positive music; I have been listening to Deitrick Haddon and others like his genre of music for years. I also introduced his CD's to my grandmother before she passed on. A couple inspirational CD's by Deitrick Haddon; Lost and Found, and Crossroads. He has a mellow-funky fresh gospel vibe to his music. Maybe you've heard of him, but if not, I can tell you a little about him. His name is Deitrick Haddon.

Bishop Haddon used music to motivate the lives of young people in the troubled neighborhood. He was inspired by: Sam Cooke, Pastor Marvin Winans, and Michael Jackson. He has a "gospel soul" sound. His fashion style is usually up-to-date and trendy.

♥♥ If you're going to be under-the-influence of a music experiment unaware, wouldn't you want it to be a positive music experiment experience? ♥♥
